Going to the dentist is something I have never worried about even as a child as luckily for me I have not had any really horrid experiences or procedures, and, touch wood, have only ever had to have one chipped tooth repaired with a cap. An accident which occurred while eating a Cadburys chocolate eclair sweet about 12 years ago, when the hard toffee took a small piece of my tooth out! I have to admit that for someone who is almost 40 (yeah, yeah I know I look sooo much younger!) I think to have no fillings is pretty good going .
I dont really know why I have been so lucky with my teeth. It amazes me that I don’t have any fillings as I defintely have a several sweet tooth teeth! I do not do anything special when it comes to cleaning my teeth either I just ensure I brush them twice a day with a regualr toothpaste and make sure I have regular (ish) dental appointments. Mind you I do need to make a visit to the dentists as I have not been since the summer after I gave birth to Burton, which would have been back in 2010. It isn’t that I have purposely not made an appointment, it is simply that my old dentists is in a different town to where I now live, so I left with intentions of joining a new practice closer to home. However, three years on and I have still not done this.
The worse thing is that as a result of me not moving to a new dental practice yet, the boys have not had a check up yet. Burton has at least visited a dentist recently as my Mum took him along with her for her check up late last year. Mind you I think after his time being allowed to play with the suction and air pipes he must think visiting the dentist is fun! I do feel very bad about this and it is on my list of things to do but it keeps getting bumped and then something else happens and I forget again for a couple weeks. BUT I am hoping that by writing and admiting this here on my blog, it will spur me on to pick up the phone and ask to join one tomorrow. I have a place in mind having asked around and it turns out my old dentist now works there so I have no more excuses, right?
Now I just need to make the call, hope they can squeeze us in, fill in the registration forms and take out a dental care plan as visiting the dentist is a lot more expensive than when I was a child. Plus I think it is better to be safe than sorry just in case my run of good luck (and no dental work) changes anytime soon. Also, more importantly, I want my boys to not fear paying a visit to the dentist just as I don’t, and I want them to have good teeth like their mummy too.
