When Burton was a tiny baby I used to enjoy reading him Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney. It is a delightful and heart warming story where Little Nutbrown Hare and Big Nutbrown Hare try to tell each other how much they love one another by equating it to differ sizes and distances for example, I Love You to the moon and back. It really is a sweet little tale and it actually used to make me well up when I read it to my baby boy because I was over whelmed and full of hormones back then probably (not because I am an emotional wreck of course!).
Well the good news is that the two main characters from the best selling children’s book have been turned into animated hares and star in eight episodes available to buy now on DVD. Aswell as Little and Big Nutbrown Hare there is Little Field Mouse, Little White Owl and Little Grey squirrel.
The animated stories are full of little adventures that these woodland creatures find themselves in, and above all the tales are about love, friendship and learning important life lessons. For example, learning to say sorry and realising what you did wrong.
Burton asked a lot of questions while we watched the DVD which was great because it showed that he was really taking in what was happening and what the characters were discussing and exploring in their surroundings. I like the fact that we were able to interact while watching it and he wanted to ask me questions and tell me what he was discovering.
Of course being based on the well known story, each episode ends with the Nutbrown Hares asking each other guess how much I love you and then them equating it to things like all the fir cones in the trees, all the moonbeams etc…
Gentle paced and calming, Guess How Much I Love You is captivating and very enjoyable to little ones and even big ones like myself! I think any pre schooler would be pleased to find this in their stocking or under their tree on Christmas morning.
The DVD is available to buy now and costs £9.99 for almost an hour and a half of animation, and can be found in all major retailers.
I was sent a copy of the DVD for the purpose for this review. All comments and opinions made are my own and honest
