I have already stated on my blog that I am not a huge fan of sport. Well not even a fan really. I know that at some point I will have to show some interest once the boys find a sport that they enjoy and as a supportive parent I will have to turn up and watch them compete in their chosen sport, whether it be indoors or outdoors, and in all weathers!!!
I have tried in the past to try and ‘appreciate’ a sport that boyfriends have followed. I have attended a football match (Plymouth Argyle), driven in a local nav run and I have tried to surf.
My ex was a surfer – well I am sure he still is – and we were together eight years which is a long time to be a surfers widow! So one day, probably about three years into our relationship I bought myself a wetsuit and a body board and thought I would join in with his hobby.
The first time I tried I actually went to the beach with my friend Abbi and not Ian as he was away, and I thought I could get some practice. What a disaster it was! It took me ages to get the flippin’ wetsuit on and when I did I realised I had put it on back to front!! Anyway, on the second attempt I managed to get into my wetsuit only to find that the beach at Westward Ho! was closed off that afternoon due to an oil leak further up the coast!!! Obviously wasn’t meant to be that day!
I did manage a paddle in the waves on my birthday back in June 2001 – nothing too amazing obviously but it was good fun and at least I made it in to the sea this time!
However, fun it may have been that day but surfing (well body boarding) and me was not meant to be and I decided to stay a surfers widow instead as it was warmer for one thing!

Ha! What brilliant photos!
We all had body boards when we were 13. We mainly used to ‘ride the waves’ (dude) into shore rather than going quite far out.
You are good by getting involved in your boyfriends sport. My husband isn’t into sport at all…but I have to suffer geeky radio transmitters and aerials and equipment with silly names.

Great photos, laughing my head off at the thought of you getting your wetsuit on backwards. Well done for trying to get involved in his sport though I don’t think I’d have done! The only sport Aaron likes if pool and that’s fine as that just involves me being in the pub…. ah there we go – drinking again lol

I can’t imagine you surfing, you are a dedicated girlfriend! Good work with this.
