My Mum was very young when she fell pregnant with me – 17 in fact and she just turned 18 when I was born – so growing up I was always aware how young she was compared to my friends mums.
Growing up my brother and I thought she was the most beautiful Mummy in the world, of course! I remember we watched a Miss World contest as children and we told Mum that she could easily enter and win because she was prettier than the ladies on the television!!
Mum has always been slim (even though apparently she did get huge during and after the birth of my brother and it took her a long time to get back to her pre-baby weight, but I don’t remember this) and has been able to wear short tight fitting skirts something I never have been able to! When I was at a friends 18th birthday party, a lad I went to school and then college with came up to me and said how he really fancied a woman who was dancing on the dance floor and was going to go and chat her up. When I looked to see how he was pointing at, it was my Mum! I felt a mixture of bemusement and embarrassment whilst also thinking how young my mum looked to be eyed up by one of my peers!
Although she never entered or indeed won a Miss World contest she did win a Miss Lovely Legs competition at a holiday camp we visited when I was very small. I don’t know the exact date but I am guessing late 1970’s going on the style of the clothes and Mum’s make up in this photo
She still looks amazing now and does not look her actual age at all I don’t think
taken last week on her 56th birthday

Thanks for linking up hun, we missed you last week 🙂
Love hearing about your Mum, and I can see why she got chatted up at your party. My Mum too was always quiet slim, I think it most unfair that she didn’t pass that onto me!

I’d never thought of it like that. My son is 16 this year and I was 17 when pregnant and 18 when he was born too. He goes to grammar school and I DO feel young when I go up for meetings then. What’s worse is my husband (not his biological father) is 4 years younger than me too.
I do think that’s funny him going to chat your mom up – what did you say?
Beautiful post.

Jason Gerry is his name ! I think I was a bit take aback and exclaimed “you can’t she’s my mum!” I think he still would have done to be honest!! X
