Last month I was chosen by the lovely Susan K.Mann to be a recipient of her favourite book when she was asked by the Tots 100 to be a book reviewer as part of their new Tots 100 blogger book club . In return for accepting a copy of the book, I too am to select a book and a blogger to recommend it to.
For my book club nomination I am going with a classic english novel and one – if not the – favourite of mine which I have read many, many times and seen many adaptations on the big and small screen. It is, of course
I adore this book.

IT is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.
I knew that this was a book I would enjoy and want to read.
Witty and observant of the social particulars and manners of her day, Jane Austen’s story of love and relationships among the gentry is, I think, inspired.
Witty and observant of the social particulars and manners of her day, Jane Austen’s story of love and relationships among the gentry is, I think, inspired.
The main female protagonist, Eliazabeth (Lizzie) Bennett is a forthright young woman who is the second eldest of five daughters and probably the most sensible! She is smart, witty and headstrong and will only marry for love and refuses to accept a proposal from someone she could never love or feel happy with. When she first meets Mr Darcy, she is immediately prejudiced against him due to a passing remark he makes about her and her family. Being a proud and slightly arrogant man Darcy does not win any favours among Lizzie, her sisters or her mother and in fact Lizzie is quick to announce that he “is the last man on earth I could ever be persuaded to marry” .
However, as the narrative unfolds and revelations are unravelled it becomes clear that Darcy has fallen for the second eldest Bennett sister, as he realises that his initial judgement of her was due to his stubborn pride about her family. Elizabeth, however, is adamant for most of the story that Darcy is not her type and as she refuses to marry for the wrong reasons she actually rebukes his first offer of marriage!
Happily, being a love story, aswell as a satirical social commentary of 18th century England, Elizabeth comes to recognise the errors of her romantic ways and realises that she was in fact guilty of being prejudice of Darcy’s pride and when she discovers the true him she falls in love, for the right reasons. After all, he is “the best man I have ever known,”
Now I am sure that many of your are familiar with this novel and even if you have never read it for pleasure you may had studied it at school or college or university. However, I know of one blogger who has NEVER read Pride and Prejudice – I know shocking isn’t it??? In fact this book was actually on a recent list she compiled on a Things To Do By The Time I Am 40 meme!
So with this in mind I would like to pass this book on to ‘Me’ from TheBoyandMe, because I think it is a book that everyone should read in their life because it is a wonderful piece of fiction.
I hope she will enjoy it as much as I have done over the years, and who knows maybe she will find the time to read it before she is 40…….and maybe even again within the next 40 years of her life!
