This week Karin from Cafe Bebe has done a flashback entitled ‘Beginning’ about the start of her and her husbands relationship. So again I have taken inspiration from her post and decided to write a similar flashback.
It was Sunday June 23rd 2005 and I had celebrated my 31st birthday the day before and had a BIG night out with a bunch of friends and got rather merry – wahey (good times!). However, Kimberly couldn’t make it for some reason so her and I arranged to go out for a meal on the Sunday night with Beth and Elaine, and a possible boogie in one of Barnstaple’s nightclubs.
The ‘nightclub’ was the one I had been to the night before but it was the only one open on a Sunday night and it’s never quite the same when you are sober! You notice how much it smells and how much smaller it seems when it is less busy. Anyway, the point of this flashback is that inside this nightclub that night was Jon. I was seeing a guy called Paul at the time, it wasn’t a serious relationship and looking back it was a rebound one really, following the split from my long term surfer boyfriend. I had met Jon once or twice before as Paul and I sometimes went to a quiz night and Jon had also been there. I remember him as he used his mobile phone to obtain answers from google! He says he remembers me because I answered quite a few of the questions so he thought I seemed intelligent!! (well this was before baby brain hit me!)
So on this Sunday night, Jon came over and said hello and after a while we got chatting about this and that and at the time he was still rallying a little and his chat up line (he denies this now of course!) was asking me if I had any ideas how to promote the rallying to get him sponsorship, as I had told him that I used to work in marketing. I said I would be happy to write something up for him and we swapped mobile numbers. I don’t know why this sticks in my mind, but playing on the huge TV screen was a Kaiser Chiefs song and video!!
From that night I did write up a lengthy promotional ideas piece for him and he would text me often for a chat. I didn’t tell Paul that we had swapped numbers at the time, as I felt it was no concern to him as it was purely platonic. But Jon was definitely flirting with me by text and trying to woo me – he denies all of this now, but he was. It worked too as we did get together in the November.
