When I was pregnant with Burton, I owned my own business, a small cafe, which I worked in pretty much 6 days a week every week with the odd day off here and there. When I found out I was pregnant I knew I had to sell the cafe because there was just no way that I could run a business and look after a baby. I wanted to be a full time Mum and therefore, the cafe had to go. Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to sell it until four months after Burton was born, so I never got the time off before he came along that I had hoped for.
As it turns out I worked 6 long days a week on my feet until 9 days before Burton was born, and looking back I don’t know how I did it. On my last Saturday of working in the cafe, I had arranged to have a night in with Lisa who worked for me. We were going to watch a chick flick and have a take away. I almost didn’t go because I was knackered from working all day but we had planned it for some time to I decided to still go. Jon offered to drive me thee and back too so I thought I may aswell go and enjoy myself.
As we drove into Torrington, Jon mumbled something about going to check out something at the scout hall first and I will be honest I didn’t think anything of it at the time – I was probably enjoying the rest in the passenger seat! As we pulled up at the scout hall I saw my friend Rita and her daughter (who was one of my saturday girls) dressed up walking past and again I thought nothing of it. When Jon stopped the car, he told me to get out and go to the hall. I remember saying something liken but I need to get to Lisa’s and then I looked at the entrance and saw some familiar faces trying to hide away! Suddenly the penny dropped on my poor baby brain – it was a party for me!!
It turned out to be a baby shower which my staff had organised
and they invited my friends and customers along
and the theme was 80’s – yay! So everyone else was dressed in 80’s clothes apart from me, but they did get me some leg warmers and funky plastic glasses! All of which clashed with my maternity ensemble!
Lol! I also wore a sash which read “I carried a watermelon” a great choice being a Dirty Dancing fan.
It was a great evening and I really was surprised and chuffed at the effort they had gone to for me. Everyone was amazed by my stamina as I was on my feet for most of the night, singing on the karaoke and dancing.
It was a brilliant party and at the end I was given a Chinese Lantern to light and let go on behalf of my baby. Such a lovely thing to do

Awww this is so lovely that everyone did that for you. ย Sounds like a great time and you were at least wearing pink and white which are 80’s colours anyway so with the legwarmers, sash and glasses you looked fab! xx
