Chocolate Orange Cake

Ingredients
  • 200g self raising flour
  • 200g unsalted butter
  • 200g caster sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 jar of chocolate orange flavoured chocolate spread (Tesco stock a nice one)
  • 200g tub of full fat soft cheese
  • 1 Terry's chocolate orange
Instructions
  1. grease and line 2 x 8 inch baking tins
  2. pre heat the oven to 180oC / 160oC (fan)
  3. *To make the sponges:
  4. Cream the butter with the sugar until pale and creamy
  5. Add the eggs and a spoonful of the sifted flour and beat together
  6. Carefully add the remaining flour and fold in until combined
  7. Divide the mixture between the two baking tins and place in the oven
  8. Cook for about 20-25 minutes until cooked
  9. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely before adding the frosting
  10. *To make the frosting:
  11. Mix the cream cheese and chocolate orange spread together until combined
  12. *To assemble the cake:
  13. Sandwich the two sponges together with some of the frosting and then cover the outside of the cake - the top and all around it - with more of the chocolate orange frosting
  14. Then break open the Terry's chocolate orange (taking 1 segment for yourself - a perk of the cake making!) and decorate the top of the cake with the segments however, you like or feel free to do as I did.
  15. Then your Chocolate Orange Cake is ready.
  16. Keep in a cool place.
